DIALOGUE: Unread

Hwigyumjae, Seoul, Korea

08.24-09.15.2025

DIALOGUE: Unread explores the terrain of unarticulated emotions and unread sensations in an era where information and images are produced in real time, and immediacy is prized as a virtue. The exhibition begins from signals that have arrived yet remain unread, emotional residues that cannot be translated into language, and traces of erased perception, positioning these as the foundation of artistic practice.

The 10 participating artists reposition themselves as transmitters rather than receivers, tracing the flows of emotion and perception anew. Through painting, sculpture, installation, and media-based works, they explore pre-linguistic emotion, invisible signals, and sensory relations that extend between the human and the non-human. Their practices construct new terrains of perception where deleted or unacknowledged responses might once again linger.

DIALOGUE: Unread also expands beyond the exhibition itself to become a space of exchange and conversation. A special Director's Networking Event brought together directors from participating Korean galleries and international galleries, fostering new possibilities for the global reach of Korean contemporary art.

In addition, an Artist Talk program encouraged direct dialogue between artists and audiences, creating a setting for the vivid sharing of artistic contexts and processes.

Held at the traditional Korean hanok space Hwigyumjae in Seoul, the exhibition evokes the presence of the “unread” within a sensory landscape where the boundaries between past and present, material and immaterial, human and technological continuously intersect. In an age defined by instant response, DIALOGUE: Unread restores the value of delay in interpretation, proposing a slower, more reflective space in which emotion and sensation may reclaim their own time.
