Generation that Generates (生成世代)

The term “generation” (生成) refers to the emergence of new things or qualities that did not exist before, while “generation” (世代) describes a group of people born in the same era who share common ways of thinking and sensing. Generation that Generates is an ongoing project by female media artists exploring new creative expressions through technology.

MediaSonyo: is a community led by female media artists who explore themes of creation, society, and daily life, transcending specific technologies or geographical boundaries. The community aims to support people who experience social disparities, growing into an inclusive platform beyond any single region or nation.

Exhibition/Project Description

Generation that Generates is a multi-dimensional project that includes exhibitions, workshops, and international expansion opportunities to explore the intersection of art and technology. Focusing on media art, the project encourages creators to develop new artistic values and expand the role of art in a technology-driven society.

Exhibition: The Generation that Generates exhibition showcases the evolutionary processes of generative AI, machine learning, and material transformations. Through this exhibition, artists examine various possibilities within generative processes, inviting audiences to experience layered meanings within the creation process.

Workshop: The project includes workshops that explore the fusion of AI and creative environments. Participants experiment with techniques in text, image, video, and sound creation, discovering new ways of artistic expression using AI and exploring its potential connections to industry.

Potential for International Exhibitions: Generation that Generates has the potential to expand internationally, with opportunities to collaborate with galleries and art fairs abroad. By connecting with the global media art community, the project aims to share its vision more widely and cultivate meaningful connections.

Expected Outcomes

The project aims to spotlight and support non-mainstream media art and artist collectives, with a core focus on female Korean media artists in MediaSonyo. Since 2023, the exhibitions and workshops have sought not only immediate impact but also long-term sustainability, with the following expected outcomes:
